Path of Exile Item Upgrades

The performance of many Path of Exile items can be enhanced by upgrading their performance. They can cause additional damage, AD or even affixes.

In most cases, however, upgraded Common and Magic gear is beaten out by Rare-grade gear because of their high requirements.

Armor

Armor upgrades are a form of upgrade that can be used on armor and weapon items. They boost the performance of the item they're attached to. Armor upgrades can be found in the world of the game and can be purchased from Blacksmiths at any bonfire. Additionally, they can be salvaged from items with upgrade components in them with a professional or higher salvage kit.

The level of an armor's or weapon's upgrade determines the amount of damage it can absorb. The absorption of damage by an item upgrader of armor will increase when it is upgraded to its maximum upgrade level. However, it's important keep in mind that this will increase its weight, causing it to weigh more than it was before.

There are a few different types of armor upgrades available in the game and each one has distinct effects. For instance, certain upgrades will give the armor a certain number of additional health points, while others make it stronger and lighter. The name of the upgrade will indicate the kind of upgrade the item can receive, as shown below.

Certain upgrades require magic or a combination of technology and magic, which are shown by the "Magic" and "Hybrids" entries in the table. Certain upgrades require charges to use. They are referred to as "Charges" entries in the table. The charges for these upgrades change daily or never expire depending on the upgrade.

Iron Ore is the cheapest way to improve your armor. You can locate it by exploring and looting small chests. Titanium is more expensive however, it is available at the smelters of Orgrimmar and Stormwind City. Certain upgrades, like the Reforge or the Hot Potato Books can only be used on high-level armor pieces. These upgrades can provide significant boost to stats and are a worthwhile investment, especially for 1-handed weapons.

The player should be aware that upgrading a piece to its maximum upgrade level can boost its defense. However, it will also affect its agility and speed. It is not recommended to upgrade armor above +9. The defensive boost gained typically isn't worth the weight and power expenses of the upgrades.

Weapons

Weapon upgrades allow players to increase the effectiveness of certain aspects of the weapon. Upgrades can improve the accuracy of a rifle or the damage caused by shotgun shells. Some weapons have special upgrades to improve their inherent qualities. Frictionless materials (improves stability, minimizes weapon overheating), and Kinetic coils (increases the projectile's speed to cause more damage) are two examples.

Most weapon upgrades require one of three Power Dices, a different amount of Minerals and Erons, and a whetblade to apply. These are obtained through either finishing side quests, taking out a certain number of monsters or bosses or by contacting the Weapon Upgrade NPC located in Central Flarine.

Upgrades to a weapon, equipment Set piece, or Whetblade requires visiting the NPC [Armor] Boboko in Central Flarine and paying her an upgrade fee that is based on a specific number of Bars. The more bars needed to complete an upgrade, the more advanced the level. If you have multiple upgrade materials, the cost of upgrading will be less.

In Chapter 2: Season 5 the way you upgrade your weapon and sets has changed a bit. Previously, you could seek out an Upgrade Bench and pay for a specific amount of Bars to upgrade your equipment or weapon to a higher level of rarity. You could do this until you reached the max upgrade level of the weapon or equipment, after which the upgrades would reset.

It's still possible, but it relies heavily on RNG. You should consider buying equipment that has low upgrade levels, but high base scores and stat distributions. These gears have a higher chance of granting you the highest level of advantages and benefits.

To level up faster, many players prioritize upgrading their weapons. Players should also upgrade the weapons that their squadmates use to make them stronger. Shepard, for example, should upgrade the M92F in order to unlock the Beretta M93R. This will make the weapon more useful when used with biotic specialists such as Grunt and Tali.

Jewels

Jewels are utilized in the armor's sockets and weapons, enhancing the power of a character and bringing about secondary effects. Jewelry crafting is the process of making them, where you combine gemstones with specific reagents on a table. The higher the tier of the gem has, the more powerful its secondary effect. These reagents can be gotten from Treasure Goblins and World Bosses around the world, or through collecting Legendary Gear. You can also purchase them from The Jeweler in exchange for gold and Scattered Prisms.

The quality of a jewel can be improved by the Jeweler, with stages that vary from Crude to Royal. The stat boosts will vary according to the tier that the jewel is at when it's slotted into weapons, jewelry, or other gear.

All levels of jewels can be crafted at the Jeweler, with the exception of the rare and legendary jewels which require you to be at a high enough level to obtain them. In contrast to other upgrade components, jewels are able to be swapped by a different identical jewel without damaging it. You can only replace the jewel once within an Item upgrader Mod of equipment.

Utilizing more jewels in a movement will make it feel smoother and is usually done for aesthetic reasons. The jewels can also enhance performance and create an outer layer that is more durable than steel so that repeated friction from pivots do not cause damage to the movement.

A Glyphmaster can offer glyphs to improve the look of your shields and weapons. These glyphs offer a small boost and can be exchanged, however they are not guaranteed to show up as loot. Glyphs can be upgraded like jewelry, at the Jeweler for gold, and also Scattered Crystal. Glyphs can also be taken out and returned to the inventory. Other upgrade components, like traits and aegis, are not swappable, and can only be recovered using an Upgrade Extractor or salvaging them using a Black Lion Salvage Kit or Ascended Salvage Tool.

Trinkets

Trinkets can be used to provide your hero with a variety of small, but beneficial, advantages. They can be obtained in the beginning areas as loot or personal story rewards from vendors, and by performing road interactions. They can be found on the Trading Post, or crafted by jewelers.

The first trinket players will unlock is the cloak. It grants a small, but useful bonus in movement speed and the ability to evade. The player can then acquire rings, amulets and necklaces, in a similar way similar to how they obtained weapons and armor. Each piece of equipment comes with a slot for an upgrade that is either universal or jewel. Universal upgrades provide smaller bonuses and can be used in any type of equipment however, jewelry cannot be replaced or upgraded, and only works with certain types of trinkets.

These trinkets also grant additional buffs and skills that remain active whenever the hero is not fighting. This allows the hero to be more efficient when they are not active. It also helps compensate for the lack of a good slot in the talent tree or team that are normally filled by the hero's optimal stats.

In general trinket upgrades should be prioritized over BiS (Best item upgrader in Slot) items you won't replace soon. Next, any items with desirable statistics that aren't as important as the iLevel for the item to be upgraded. This is especially true when an item upgrade has multiple stats that you'd like to upgrade, since it's generally more beneficial to upgrade one important stat rather than two sub-optimal ones.

In the beginning of the game, junglers will usually want to upgrade their yellow trinket into a red one, while top and mid players will usually opt for a green or pink ward (depending on the matchup). These choices will have a major impact on the hero's abilities to control maps.

In addition to the things mentioned above, players can also find other trinkets in the game in the form of trophies and awards. These can be earned through completing certain milestones in the story, such as finishing a chapter's main quest or killing a certain boss. You can check them out by selecting the achievement from the reward section of the hero's menu.
