Upgrades increase the value of certain numeric statistics on armor, weapons and rings. They also increase bonuses such as crit chance and PvE damage.

For example, a weapon with the upgrade template that ends in % will suffer an attack damage of 3% each time it is upgraded (relative to its previous value).

Components

Upgrade components can be incorporated into trinkets, armor, and weapons to give them a boost in stats or add a bonus effect. They can be acquired through crafting, purchasing from vendors trading or looting. Some upgrades can also be accompanied by special cosmetic effects.

Upgrade components can be inserted into any equipment with a slot for them. The item must be at a minimum upgraded to blue level in order for the component to be used. Unlike other mods, upgrade components can only be used once; they can't be used multiple times or replaced with new upgrades. Infusions and enrichments are a specific type of upgrade component used for non-amulet ascended and legendary equipment, as well as some of the back items that are not ascending. Infusions and Enrichments can be obtained by salvaging ascended equipment or completing a mission in the Prophecies, Factions, and Nightfall campaigns.

A prefix or suffix may be added to an upgrade, thereby changing the name of the item it's used on (for example, 'Canthan Armor Insignia,' becomes Canthan Armor Minor Vigor). Some upgrades increase the Mark Level or Rarity, which allows players to make stronger versions of the equipment that require fewer Upgrade Crystals than is required to achieve the same level of upgrade through normal methods.

A boost upgrade can alter the attack or defense properties of a weapon, or armor. These upgrades can be crafted from the Portative Forging Station once the player has completed the cutscene, and defeats the Crazed Mechanic. These upgrades are available for purchase them from the cash shop or collecting them from enemies when upgrading other equipment.

Each upgrade increases the chance that a higher-tier version of the item will be dropped at the next reset. This gives players an incentive to upgrade their gear even in the event that they don't know how much it will be improved after a reset.

If a boost upgrade is successful or not, the process may be costly and there is a significant risk that the item may be obsolete or even break if it fails; a failed upgrade will destroy Upgrade Crystals and Assist Powder as well as the upgraded item. This is mitigated by the availability of cash shop items to double or even eliminate chance of failure, as well as a few upgrades that give the benefit of being reinserted into an item.

Glyphs

After you have acquired the desired Glyphs you will require them to be put on your equipment. Each Glyph unlocks a unique bonus that can boost the stats of a specific set of nodes that are within a radius of the Glyph. Depending on the Glyph the bonus will be +40 to one of your primary stats, or +25 to two of your secondary stats.

Glyphs boost all nodes that are connected to them, which is why it is best to put Glyphs in the most important spots on the Graph. This will increase the impact. Druids for instance should put their Glyphs close to their primary damage nodes. They might also want to consider placing them near their critical damage nodes.

Leveling

The item upgrading system lets players increase the stats of specific items by putting upgraded components in them. This is referred to as "upping". Each upgradeable item comes with a level that determines its final upgraded stats. Upgraded items are able to be leveled up to a maximum of ilvl 385. Each level of an item requires a different amount of components to reach and the cost of upgrading increase as the item is leveled up.

Some upgrades require an ingredient to be activated. This ingredient is obtained by finishing Upgrade Recipes. These recipes can be found in the upgrade tab of a crafting table or bought from NPCs. Each completed Upgrade Recipe earns some Technology Points. These points can be used to the upgrading of an item. Once enough points are earned you will be able to claim the upgrade item and get its extra bonuses.

When an item is upgraded by a player, the base item is replaced with a different item of the same type. This means that the same piece of armor will be transformed into the form of a shield or weapon when upgraded. The new item also comes with its own set bonus. This could be a problem because it can cause the item to become more expensive, even if you don't require it.

If the player has enough tokens, they can reroll item upgrades. The item will be replaced with a brand new one that has a base of level 1 and totally different bonuses. This is a good idea however it should not be used frequently as it can waste resources.

Some upgrades can increase their value, allowing players to customize their gear. Requirements

Upgrades to armor set pieces also increase its base defense, while upgrades to weapon items increase their base damage and also increase their strength and dexterity.

All items can be upgraded up to five times, with the exception for hero gear, which can be upgraded eight times. Every when you upgrade an item, it is given a chance to fail--the failure rate increases the farther you go beyond the maximum amount of upgrades. Failures can result in the item returning to its original condition, which requires the player to spend additional items than if they stopped upgrading after the maximum number.

If an item isn't upgraded, the experience bar in its growth bar will be reset to zero. In addition, the item will lose any bonuses it gained such as crit chance and attack damage, and all additional effects associated with that effect (for instance, an increase in heal over time or the speed of reloading). The player is able to use their weapon or armor even after the failure.

When an item is upgraded, the upgrades are applied from the lowest to highest. This means that if a weapon gains an increase in crit chance it will be applied prior to any increase in attack damage. A new attribute known as Slots has been added to the item's definition and the value is recomputed every time an upgrade is made.

The amount of resources needed to upgrade an item is dependent on its rarity score and the number of upgrade slots. The upgrade cost for non-premium items is the same as the base value of the upgrade. For instance, a typical equipment item upgrade could have five upgrades with a cost of 25600 Technology Points 4x Quality Improvement Opportunity. Hero grade items have a lower cost per upgrade.

Premium items could have different upgrade requirements from normal equipment. For example they may require less sowels, but they will require more minerals and orons. Players will still have to take each piece of gear they want to upgrade to NPC [Armor] Boboko located in Central Flarine. In addition to the upgrade cost mentioned above, each equipment upgrade requires a different amount of the ingredients for upgrading.
